Dead iPhone? constantly freezes..

Hi,

I have a BIG problem. My iPhone started crashing all of a sudden and i dont know why. I never droped it or anything and there is no obvious reason why this is happening.

So i have 8GB iPhone from US (1.1.1 OTB), unlocked first with anysim, than later upgraded to 1.1.4 and unlocked with Ziphone. I never installed anything suspicious. The only thing i remember is, that before it started crashing i did turn the phone part off and then on again in Boss prefs (or Boss something).

One day phone started crashing as soon as I pressed icons, or tried to make a call. Then after restart it was loading for ages and it didnt boot up. Only the spinning fan showed up on Apple logo. Then I tried restoring and i didnt help (it actually did the same thing when booting after restore). Then i tried pwnage tool and phone stuck in DFU. Restored with standard 1.1.4 via itunes it is still not working. The phone stays on (also in sleep mode) if it is without SIM card, and i am not using it before I lock it. If I watch youtube, or use safari it crashes. Also alarm clock crashes it.

Im lost. I have been searching the web for a week now, but havent found the solution. I would take it back, but Im from a country that has no iPhone!

just try doing a completely clean wipe on it by doing the following.

download iLiberty+ and install it
with the phone plugged in, set the phone to DFU mode using iLiberty+
restore the phone to 1.1.4 in itunes

if you are going to be using the phone with at&t give it a try as is with stock firmware and see what happens. If you need to unlock it, do so in iLiberty+ and then try the phone out. By doing a restore in DFU mode you can ensure that the phone is being completely restore back to factory spec, if I am not mistaken this also restores ALL locks on the phone which could be the current conflict.

This is a symtom of ZiPhone - where it unlocks and seems to work then randomly one day decides not to work.

Don't use ZiPhone is the lesson here.

I suggest you post on hackint0sh.org in the software unlock section and maybe someone can help you.

Pwnagetool DOES NOT work in DFU only in recovery mode just so you know. And you have to be on 1.1.4 BEFORE using it.

Also I bet you restored from your backup!

NEVER RESTORE from backup as it can mess your settings it.

it sounds to me like you need to restore again and set it up as a new phone and hopefully ZiPhone won't cause any more issues from before but there is no guarantee.

Thanks for reply. I've tried it and it is a bit better. The phone still freezes after waking from sleep mode, but now it restarts normally (no more spinning circle).

But the problem is, that phone still crashes, especially when waking it!!! (I always setup as new phone, sometimes i also try with not syncing it at all)

I have no idea what to do...

is this a clean install as of now or have you jailbroken it yet?

I restored the phone again in itunes (in DFU mode), then unlocked it with iLiberty. Phone still keeps crashing randomly (more after i play with it). It seem like some processes are running and they fill the processor. I'm beginning to suspect that phone is physically broken (although i haven't dropped it or something like that).

well if you have done nothing but clean restore it and unlock it and it is still doing this there could be something wrong with the phone. Have to used different unlocking techiques on the phone in the past, could there be a possibility that by using different methods there has been a conflict created.

I thought by restoring in DFU it would 100% restore all phone locks and erase all evidence that the phone was ever tampered with, maybe someone else can correct my on this. You may want to looking into one of the tutorials to revirginize it as a last resort and see. There may be an issue with baseband/firmware or bootloader/firmware that is causing it.

If your phone is already "unlocked" (signal and carrier logo shows up after iTunes restore) why risk unlocking it again? The unlocking part is the riskiest part of the process as it is BaseBand and BootLoader related.

Just choose the "jailbreak" and "activate" option instead of ticking all the boxes when using iLiberty or Ziphone.
