Good day folks.

So just like everyone else, I left my iPad to charge overnight. Woke up the next day, the device greeted me with the dead battery screen. Definitely weird. Went ahead and left it charging for another 1-2 hours, no luck. A soft reset did not kick it back to live either, and now my iPad is completely dead. A total black screen. No response whatsoever.

Called Apple, made an appointment and went down to one of my local Apple repair centre. Representative did an ICC, can't get it to work either. Told me that my logic board is most probably dead.

Folks, please advise. I bought the device back in Dec 2018. 90% on my time on it was using GoodNotes. 10% leisure. When I asked the representative how could something like this happened within a span of less than 2 years happened with hardcore usage, she simply told me "it happens from time-to-time". I have no AppleCare, so a replacement unit will run me $800 in my local currency. Is there anyway I can talk Apple into replacing it for free? Paying $800 for most likely a refurbished unit doesn't economically make any sense, when I can top another few hundred to get the 4th gen model.

Some other facts about my iPad:
1. I was using the default 18W charger up till Dec last year when I got my MBP 16 inch, and switched to charging it with the 96W charger. Not sure if this was the root cause (although I highly doubt).
2. No water damage, just usual wear and tear.

Thanks everyone.

It’s purely guesswork at this time for anybody wether or not Apple will do something for you for free.
If you have consumer law on your country playing on your favour, this might be a route to explore usually with the seller.

Accidents happen and stuff breaks outside the warranty sometimes, only question is when.

You will likely either have to pay for the repair or buy a new device.

You're not going to have much luck persuading Apple into not charging you any money. At this point, you might as well buy a new iPad Pro.

Mine too a couple of days ago, got AppleCare appointment in a few days but not holding out hope as I’ve read a few comments like yours that basically apple don’t want to know - £1000 spent 18 months ago for essentially a placemat- if I get joy from apple I will come back to the forum but as I’ve said from what I’ve read items with the c charger thingy are not lasting very long!

If your iPad is defective and under warranty, Apple will either repair or it replace it. That is standard Apple protocol.

It’s 18 months old , warenty is only 12 months - I’m so upset. I read on it at night as the screen changes so it’s soft on the eyes. Missing it. Il see what is said at my appointment but I’m not holding out hope
