Two questions regarding exchanging my iPhone for a new one....

There is one dead pixel on my screen. Only obvious when the screen is black. Is this something Apple will exchange the phone for?

If they will, is it possible to request a different color phone? I got a white 16gb on launch day, but would have preferred a black.

Thanks!

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3G (white): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5G77 Safari/525.20)

Replacing an iPhone because of one dead pixel? It depends on how cool the 'Genius' is, I think. I mean, they could easily say it's within spec or something. But if it were that PLUS another problem (phone speaker intermittently stops working, etc) they'd probably be more likely to do it. ;)

As for changing colors, no. I asked, and at least here in Japan they said no.

I had (a guess) 15 dead pixels and they exchanged it. Did you just notice the dead pixel? If so turning your phone off and on (i read somewhere that could fix it). However mine started with one and then the next day there were a lot more. as for changin colors i doubt it.

what I said to my genius is "I have 1 dead pixel, a hairline crack, battery is terrable, + it shocks me at points"

he said "i'm making it clear that I am only exchanging becasue of the 1 dead pixel, my genius was awlsome :).

I have one dead pixel on mine as well. But I read on here somewhere to apply pressure to that spot. So I did and it goes away. It does come back though, like once a week. I didn't know if they'd exchange it for just one pixel after having it since launch day....

If you can only see the pixel when the screen is black that isn't a dead pixel, but a stuck pixel.

Dead pixels are dead. Gone. Kaput. Never turn on, and can't be fixed short of a replaced LCD.

Stuck pixels (which can be seen when the screen is otherwise black) are easily fixed by applying light pressure on the area of the pixel with a pencil-point type object while turning the screen on and off a few times. Just Google "stuck pixel repair".

My one day old iphone had two dead pixels. Made an appointment at apple and the genius said that was unacceptable, opened a new box and found dust under the screen, he then called a manager and the manager opened anotherone that was close to perfect. On top of that they gave me a free year of mobile me for the inconvenienze; I didn't ask for anything just wanted a good phone with no dead pixels.
The apple store here just rocks!!!

Update:

Not only did they exchange my phone for the dead pixel, they let me switch to a black model as well.

Apple rules.

Have you done a hard reset? I had a dead pixel one time and a hard reset and a little pressure to the spot knocked it right on out.

WOOT! Yay Apple!<3
I had 2G iPod touch with a dead pixel and they exchanged it for a brand new one with out even charging me a restocking me.

Good for you, I was told at my apple store that 1) I needed something like 12 bad pixels to exchange and 2) I could not switch colors (I have a 16GB black).

Hopefully this one will be good for you!

OMG, you guys suck! Why the hell do you exchange your iPhone because of one dead pixel?
Mine has one dead pixel, a huge light leak at the left side of the screen and a very weak vibration. But thats no reason for me to take it back.
As for consumer electronics, you will never find a perfect device. One dead pixel is definitely within specs.

Well it's kind of ridiculous is you get an iPhone, especially since it has a small screen, but on 30 inch Apple Cinema display we don't.

Sorry for posting in this rather old thread but I thought it was better than making a new one on the same subject.

I got my iPhone around two weeks ago with one stuck pixel that was red. I brought it to the T-Mobile shop (seller of the iPhone in the Netherlands) and they replaced it right away. Great service I thought.

So I get back home, open the case thinking that I've gotten a new phone....and notice that the cloth to clean the screen with isn't in the box. Ok, weird, but maybe I just got "lucky" last time when I got it.

I turn on the phone while it's connected to my computer, and the installation screen doesn't show up where I can name the phone and everything. Gee, that's weird, the phone was already up and running and "registered"....with another nice stuck pixel, this time white, in the middle of the screen.

This has really pissed me the **** off because I thought the phone was new. Not only is it not new, but it has the same defect as before!

I'm turning it back tomorrow and will ask for a new one, a real new one that is. If they give me a ****ed up one again I'll cancel my subscription...which I hope is possible.
