hello everyone! i'm bummed. i've been enjoying my ipad for a few days now and noticed a dead pixel on my screen. so i'm returning it for a replacement. this is my first ipad. i have an iphone but never had to exchange or return it. so my question is: how do i prep my ipad before returning -- to make sure no information will be left on my ipad when i return it? i've read on different threads and on the internet about using the "erase all content and settings." if i do this, will i still be able to turn on the ipad and make sure that nothing is left on it? or will it turn off and the only way to turn it back on is by attaching to itunes and going through the process again? thanks for your help!

You can plug it into your computer and click restore in iTunes, or do the erase all settings thing. They both reset the device back to factory.

so when i do the "Erase all Settings and Content" and it wipes clean all data on my ipad, will i be able to turn on the ipad and make sure that no information is left?
Not sure what you expect to do to "make sure no info is left." if you do Erase All Content and Settings, the iPad will return to the state where it was when you first took it out of the box, and will be unusable until you activate it again with iTunes. What more evidence do you need to reassure you that your info isn't on the iPad anymore?

In addition to the OP's question, would the iPad need to be 'registered' again after having been restored to factory settings?
Ie if i wanted to sell mine, obv i would wipe it first but presumably it would still be officially registered to me?

. i haven't been up to anything. just paranoid about having my info available out there. as i've said before, i've never returned an iphone or ipad before where personal information have once been stored. with other devices like nokia, palm, etc, once you reset and remove all your data, you can still turn it on and make sure nothing is left but the factory installed apps. i guess the fact that you need to connect to iTunes in order to turn and and activate shows that it's back to how it was right out of the box.

At the Apple Store they will have you go into Settings>General>Reset>Erease All Content And Settings before swapping for a new iPad.
Just do as mentioned above. The reset process will take about 2 hours so just go to sleep while it does that. Once done you'll see Connect to iTunes sign. No info will be on it and even if you have a password lock that too will disappear as it's back to original setting.
thanks everyone for your replies. i did the "erase all data and settings" and was good to go. returned my ipad but unfortunately, they didn't have any new ipads in stock so i'll be waiting until they get new inventory. again, thanks everyone for your help!
