after I received my new mbp (3 weeks ago) I found out that my right speaker was dead. (It wasn't a software problem). It's a desktop replacement so I usually have it plugged into my external speakers. I played with the config and only the internal speakers were not working.

Well today it came to life for the first time. Each speaker left & right have the same volume level (some have problems with static from the right & low volume). So what the heck happened? I have been carrying it around to and fro class lately. Should I open it to check the connections? Other than this my mbp has been flawless.

don't open it. Maybe it will work from now on but that seems unlikely. You should call apple with it doesn't work and they can fix it.
