Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone could help me out with an annoying problem i have. I think I have a dead strip in the middle of my 1st gen touch screen. Certain numbers while dialing have been affected, certain letters while texting have been, and the inability to clear certain prompts situated in the middle of the screen have let to great problems. Like if the 20 percent life message comes up, I would have to charge the phone until it goes away, as I cannot clear the message. Or if I get a text message, and it comes up on the screen, I have to restart my phone to do anything else after that message has appeared. I can't text 4 out of the 5 vowels....this sucks! PLease help! Is this a hardware or software issue...I must inform u that I have unlocked my phone using ziphone/jailbreak

Give this a shot. I have the same issue but the strip resides in the upper part of my 1 gen iphone. I haven't tried increasing the sensitivity but I may try it. Or just bring it back to apple & hopefully they'll swap it. Of course restore it to it's original setting.

I checked the link above but it's for 1.1.1 firmware and below...mine's on 2.2.1...I browsed the iphone's general.plist file as stated in the article to hopefully add the codes in myself...when I opened the file..the characters look jibberish...As a result I did not make any changes in fear that I would mess it up..

Any help is appreciated!
