One fine morning, my new SR 2.2 MBP's superdrive is dead. It does not recognize let alone read CD/DVD.

Given that I bought in late July, I have not installed firmware update 2.1 which seems to be causing this problem to a lot of machines. I tried searching in various sites including Macrumors with no practical gain.

I called :apple: support and the tech verified I had not installed the update 2.1 and there is no prev disks are blocking the drive. Then she asked me to restart and hold #/option/p/r. No improvement.

This is the first defective part in any of the electronics I had bought. Makes me go mad.:mad::mad: I love my MBP very much but this utter failure of one of the parts gets me worried and annoyed.

Any one has any helpful advice in this regard before I hand over my machine to the "geniuses"?

hardware fails, thats just the way it is, mine is dieing too (the superdrive) but since it still works "correctly" they woulnt fix it

Seems this issue is more prevalent than I thought.

Anyone did anything (did a CPR or something) to save their dying/dead superdrives?
