I have a powermac G4 with a pioneer dvr 107 8x superdrive. all of a sudden I cannot read dvd at all yet cd of all types work fine. last night I watched a movie on it and all was well. it will not read ANY kind of dvd media (blank or with data). I have tried dvd movies, dvd+r I have burned, dvd-r I have burned.. everything :(

whats up? why is it still reading cd ok?

is there some way to reset it?

i'm thinking I may need to buy a new one.

one thing that i used to do on my work pc when the dvd drive would not read dvd's was to run a CD cleaner disc through it after that it worked for some reason.

I just remembered something I did last night that may have caused this..

I was burning a data dvd+r and it had an error yet didn't stop buring so I force quit toast. I doubt that harmed the drive but its all I can think of as a reason for this. it seriously worked perfect yesterday.

about the applecare.. this machine is way out of it and its not the original drive anyway.

what about disconnecting it then booting without it then shut down and connect again.. would this maybe reset it?

sorry for the babble but i'm lost.

I had a similar problem with the SD on my PB. I went to the Genius Bar at the Glendale, CA store... it ended up being the discs I was using (No name, the 100 for $29.99 type).

Also blew some air in for good measure... :D

All's good now!

BTW, now I'm using TDK discs...
