Hey all, I was looking for memory for my girlfriend's Powerbook and came across Kingston ValueRAM 1GB SODIMM for $45 at MacMall...look for part # 323943. Not sure if it's a mistake or what, but it's a heck of a deal. Good luck!

FYI, Kingston ValueRAM is notorious for compatibility problems with Macs.

ValueRAM has been widely reported to cause problems in various models of Powerbook -- most notably the Rev A and B 15" and 17" Albooks.

Use at your own risk... Kingston offers no compatibility guarantees. Before ordering make sure you know the costs of sending it back -- shipping x2, possible restocking fee -- if it doesn't work.

ahh it was so cheap that i just had to buy one. ...even if it's for the powerbook that i want to get rid of. lol. that should bump up it's resale value a little, right? oh well. good deal!

edit: ...oh wait, would it be compatible!? AHHHH.

I just want to thank MovieCutter for pointing this out, been looking to get 1gb for my 12" PB for a LONG time now, but it was over $100 - heck with overnight shipping (yeah I know, but hey) it only came to $60!

Hey neo,

The RAM will work in the latest 12" PowerBook. It didn't get upgraded at the same time. Sorry for the confusion.

You can always check system profiler to determine the speed of RAM that you have installed.

So it DOES work for the 12" PBs! Yesss. Aw lucky you, mine came out to $64+ with 2-Day shipping and CA tax. BOOOO. Eh, I'll probably get it tomorrow anyway, they're pretty close.

I have the Rev D. 12" PB - it takes PC2700 sticks so it should work. If not, I didn't waste a *****load of money.

Has anybody bought this memory and have it installed on their PowerBook? Anyone dealt with kinston? Are the a**es about returns?

I've dealt with Kingston before. I'm not sure if I bought this exact same RAM from Fry's but I'm sure it was a 1gb for a 15" 1ghz AlPB I had before and it worked great. We'll see about this one soon, though.

No problem guys and gals...just looking out for everyone. I've used Kingston ValueRam sticks in my Aluminum Powerbooks (as stated before...1.25Ghz RevA, 1.5Ghz RevB, 1.67 Ghz RevC) with the exception of the latest 15" rev and never had a problem.
