Dealing with Photo constant downloading...

I have a few mac's and an iPhone. I have a mac mini I'd like all my iPhones pictures to get downloaded to, along with the iCloud. Thats my backup.

The thing is I also have two MacBooks, an old one I use for basic surfing while watching TV and one I use for the road.

I set the iCloud settings on the MacBooks to keep photos in the cloud, but it just seems that all my MacBooks ever seem to do is constantly download pictures from the cloud.

Will the MacBooks always download the full version pop the picture as long as there is room?

Is there a way around this? Photos is taking all my bandwidth...

I don't know the answer but Photos is a PITA. I use Lightroom and wish I could disable Photos. It opens every time I put a SD/CF card in my reader. I disabled Photos for each device via Image Capture and Photos checkbox but to no avail. The system won't let me toss the darn app in the trash.

Photos is simply broken, IMO. I try to keep pictures synced between two macs, two phone and an iPad. The iOS devices seem to be working pretty well, but the macs and photos via iCloud.com are HORRIBLE. My latest frustration is that one mac wouldn't update pictures at all even though they propagated to other iOS devices, but after installing the 10.11.1 update, suddenly it says that my Mac has 30,000+ images to upload. That's my ENTIRE LIBRARY that I already have in the cloud, so apparently it wants to duplicate my library.

This whole thing is a mess. It's like Apple has forgotten how to take care of the small details that used to make their products so enjoyable. As a 25+ year mac user, this is utterly frustrating! <banging my head against the wall>

I know there is a Terminal command that stops Photos from opening whenever an SD card is inserted. It works perfectly for me. Sadly, I can no longer find it. Sorry, but at least there is a solution if you can find it.
