Apple announced the new 15.3-inch MacBook Air last week, and since then we've been tracking a $50 discount at Amazon, which was the first deal ever seen on the computer. Today, Amazon is sweetening this sale with an even steeper markdown at $100 off select models.

I'm assuming no but would using my Apple Card qualify this for the 0% interest?

Lol. As if Apple wasn't selling it at $1,199 already. Amazon is trying to increase their sales.

Why spend $1,249 at Amazon when they could get it for $1,199 at Apple? So, Amazon dropped their price to match Apple.

Is it just me, or do these constant sales of the low end macs devalue the Apple brand? Apple feels a bit like JC Penny these days…
There’s this weird idea that Apple is some kind of exclusive semi-luxury brand. It isn’t. It’s a brand for the masses. Apple is just really good at making themselves SEEM luxury while making devices for Jane and Johnny Lunchpail. They do this by making great products that, while seemingly expensive, are priced just at the place where WANT and NEED collide. (I want it, but do I need it?)

Already? Wow.

Sales must be lower than expected?

Not necessarily. I read an article recently where these third party retailers will undercut prices on popular newly released products just to drive traffic and grab some headlines...... Even if they take a slight loss on it, they more than make up for that by driving people to the site who sometimes end up buying accessories, or just browse the computer but change their mind then end up grabbing a few other odds and ends.

There's no contradiction there. Any premium brand is "luxury", because that just means beyond the essential.
Apple is not quite an everyday luxury, but it's certainly closer to that than to being a "Rolex" luxury.
It doesn't need "exclusivity" to be appealing, it's more like treating yourself to the "nice" upgrade option (that many people can afford).

Not everyone qualifies for EDU or MIL.
True, not everyone in the world, but everyone in the U.S. can buy from the education store. I just ordered the MBA 15 from Apple education site. If you're in the U.S. it doesn't matter if you're really a student or not, there's no verification. I've ordered at least three Macs this way, always getting the lower price, and right now there's also the back-to-school $150 gift card promo on top of education pricing. Sometimes I was a legitimate student, other times not, but it doesn't matter.

For my own peace of mind I can easily justify I'm a parent of a student for each of my education store purchases, but reality is there's no verification online nor in-store.
