Dear Tim: I don't want the "Gmail" name in my Apple ID!

You know what I mean, we all live this problem.

First we create an account on apple with our google mail (or other), then we create an iCloud mail, but if we want to use this as the primary id, we can't. Why the hell I have to use my google mail like my Apple ID?!

I cant understand why if I create an apple ID from my iphone with a new icloud account, i can't do this after create an apple id with a gmail account, in the computer... do you know what I mean?

My question: this will change someday? :mad:
 
Yeah, apple seems unusually strict and unwilling to change the apple id. I guess I'm lucky in that have my apple id is my .mac email address

Yeah, but you cant change the apple id from xxx@gmail.com to xxx@icloud.com after you create the account. You cant use a domain owned by apple for your apple id, this makes no sense. Especially considering that you can create an apple id with iCloud account from your iphone. Could do this, but I want the name I have now is the same that I use for everything (agustinmsosa, like this forum)

No, once its set, its written in stone.

You cant use a domain owned by apple for your apple id, this makes no sense. Especially considering that you can create an apple id with iCloud account from your iphone. Could do this, but I want the name I have now is the same that I use for everything (agustinmsosa, like this forum)

What do you mean, Apple no longer lets you use your iCloud email address as your apple id?

No, because when I created my apple id I used my google mail, THEN I created the icloud mail, so I cant use my icloud mail like my apple id, I have to use a domain not owned by apple. The only way to use a domain owned by apple (like icloud) has your apple id is when you create this from your iphone, in this way your apple id will be like " pepe@icloud.com"
 
Well that's different then stating apple won't let you use an apple owned domain for an apple id.

If you created your iCloud email address before the apple id, you could use that.

Makes me glad I switched to a Mac back when iTools was a thing. Then along came .Mac and I got an @mac.com address and kept it ever since. :)

I just wish we could still have 5 email aliases like we used to, instead of just 3. Butt I dout Apple will ever change that, nor let people change there Apple ID. :(

No, I've personally changed my email 2 times and each time I change my Apple ID. The log in, authorizations, everything changes. I even switched providers. I'm with the OP, I want my iCloud.com address to be my Apple ID instead of gmail.com. I really want to move away from Gmail so all its used for is YouTube, but (ironically) Apples making it hard for me to do so.
 
I want a divorce with Gmail, too.

As I think about this in-depth, can purchases be transferred to another email address or even iCloud addresses? Is that an issue?

No, it's not am issue. I had gmail as my Apple ID and I changed to outlook.

You can't "transfer" to any Apple owned domain (@mac, @me, @icloud). You can "transfer" by simply changing the Apple ID email to any email other than those 3 mentioned above.

Well if you log into Apple My AppleID and highlight the entry "Name, ID and Email Address" can you add an Alias and use that (when you verify the change) to log into iCloud, etc.

On my account I can log into iCloud with a .mac, .me or .icloud email accounts. So does this work for you as a work around?
 
Wow! This is also one thing that I've been plagued by for so long. Even though I can use my iCloud address to sign in, I still have the @gmail.com attached to it. It's just a small detail that I find annoying for some reason.
 
What baffles me is that if I create an apple id from the iphone (in icloud settings), I can create a new icloud account (example@icloud.com) and in this case it will be my primary mail of the apple id. Not gmail, not Outlook, not nothing. Icloud! As should be. It's a small detail, but what I love of Apple is its attention for the details! And they forgot this detail, that for obsessive persons like us its a problem :D

Could create the account from the iphone as explain and ready, but the direction I want to use is already in use (for myself). If I could delete it and create it from 0 from the iphone ...

Yep big pet peeve of mine. All notifications go to my gmail account which I have forwarded to iCloud. I don't send from it so why do I have to have it forwarded? Heck, iCloud shared calendar notifications, the Apple discussion forum, etc. send emails to your Apple ID. I really think Apple is just being stubborned.

Couldn't you just set your iCloud email address as the primary email address and everything would be going to that?
