iPod Death of a Classic?

Hi

My Boyfriends iPod has just died it was an iPod 80GB model. He is a huge music fan and has about 300GB + of lossy music files on his computer that he used with his iPod.

I've read lots of rumors that that the iPod Classic model going to be put out to pasture. Is this true?

I want to him a replacement would you suggest buying a 160GB model now or waiting to see what happens? He is too busy to sync his iPod on a regular basis. I'd think he'd want at least 100GB so the touch isn't really suitable and is more expensive for less storage.

If I may ask another question.

Classic seems like a logical choice for him, so long as he doesn't need the benefits of iOS or want them. Otherwise, your best bet is a 64GB touch or 4S (though damned expensive for what he wants). The classic has long since been somewhat ignored, those still manufactured by Apple, and it doesn't look like theres any change on the horizon, even though the current model is 3 yrs old. Its always a guessing game, but I figure considering his large music collection a classic is the only logical solution. As for AAC and MP3, they both have their own advantages and disadvantages. Read the wiki page for each.

I'd just buy the current model, I think it has little chance of getting an update, and if you need the space you don't have much other choice.

Thanks everyone, I had read that the click wheel games have been removed from the iTunes store. The writer of the article said this was the possible final nail the the coffin for the Classic.

I thought perhaps people here would have heard any rumors.
