Once again I have wiped my laptop without deauthorizing. Can anyone tell me if I rebuild it, will iTunes recognised it as being authorized? If it will I can deathorize it then.

What does iTunes look for? Is it PC Name, Mac Address or something else?

how many computers have you authorized under your account?

the max is 5 but its possible to use up the 5 slots with the same computer if you forget to deauthorize the machine before formatting.

if you had less than 5 machines authorized it wont be a problem for you. you can just click authorize under the itunes store settings with your new install.

if you reach the 5 authorization limit you can reset ALL computers authorization. you will have to re-authorize the computers you are still using. keep in mind you can only force deauthorize all computers once a year. you can contact itunes support if you need to do it more than once a year.

i tunes uses your apple login to track authorization and purchases.

I deauthorized all last month. I have 3 laptops in the household. I was selling one and replacing it whch is the one I rebuild. I need that one taken out of the equation.

Thanks folks...installed itunes on the old laptop and deauthorised.

All the best
