debating on note 3

I like my Nexus 5 but battery kind of sucks and barely gets me through a work day. On a busy use day, I'm sure it will not last. I barely use it as is.

Anyway, I am thinking of picking up a t mobile note 3 since the boot loader is unlocked and patching the radio for at&t that I am on now.

I am wondering if this is going to be worth the hacking required just for basically rooting.

Poor signal in the building I work in.

Under normal circumstances the battery is fine but if I am radar peeping and using twitter to track storms, the battery is going to be toast because the crap reception in the building.

Network extender / microcell tower is out and wifi in the joint is only in the break area.

Woke up this morning with another option and that would alleviate the need for a work around to unlock the sim card slot and that would be the Sony Z ultra Google play edition.

Its like a nexus 7 that can make phone calls.

Evidently one needs to contact Sony for an unlock code or something. I suspect a windows PC is needed along with drivers along with the headaches the drivers bring on windows.

Then again, so does the note 3.

To be honest, if poor reception is killing your battery on the Nexus 5, it's going to kill the battery on any phone you get. Granted it won't drain as fast on the Note 3 but it'll still be noticeable.

My advice is to turn off LTE to preserve the battery. As mentioned the Note will have better battery life but the reception problem still exists and so your battery will drain on the Note as well

That's where a spare battery does the trick! It's real easy to carry a spare. With this, I have my Note 3 maxed on most settings; battery drain is never a problem.

I'm currently using a 5s for a bit but I wholeheartedly recommend the Note 3. There's really no compromises with it

Mine lasted me 2 days yesterday and what was with 3 hours screen time. Also having removable battery is an amazing feature to have to just swap a new one in.

I found the Nexus 5 to be awesome, but found its battery to be subpar too. I switched to a Moto X.

Getting a bit away from my original question here...

I am wondering if it is going to be worth buying the note 3 from t-mobile (full price) and hacking it to run on my AT&T account. Is it going to be worth the trouble.

I mean, I need a windows computer (not sure if I want to try heimdall or if it even supports the note 3, I am using a MBP). Get the drivers installed, make sure the blasted PC can see the device in download mode and see if Odin works. And on top of that, worry about a boot loop or brick on a 800$ device.

Almost everything I do with my note II, I end up in a boot loop and needed to factory reset.

Or just say the hell with root and be stuck with a device of which I cannot even change the keyboard on!

Have to agree, coming from an iPhone 5 my GN3 despite the larger screen has great battery life. I do find its even better if I turn of Push email and make do with an hourly Pull (?) and switching off wifi when I don't need it is a great tip too for extended battery life.
