Hi,

My brother owns an ibook G4 sans superdrive, but now has need to burn dvd's. Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced external optical drive that would suit his needs?

Ta Muchly,

doc

I like the Sony or Pioneer. The PC i just built has 2 Sony Dual Layer DVD burners so their the bran I stick with. My G5 has a pioneer super drive so take your pic, safe either route

Personally, with optical drives, I've found you can never go wrong with Plextor. Fastest damn things on the planet, and never fails to wow reviewers with a plethora of features (i know, yer thinkin as long as it burns discs with out making coasters i'm good!)

You cannot go wrong with the PX-740UF.
It's got 16x +/-R, 8x +RW, 4x -RW and 8x/4x +/- DL. And all that for $96! You will probably end up paying in excess of $150 for a drive from anybody else, and the best from Lacie costs nearly $200.
