Trying to find a half decent finance app for the mac. I’m currently using Numbers but hitting the inevitable wall with it.

I tried:

GnuCash. This is pretty good but laggy as hell and chock full of weirdness which I can’t work around particularly on the budgeting and UI front. Open source Linux port so what did I expect…

Finances 2. This was pretty much spot on and had decent iOS support but is buggy as anything. Running test cases on it I managed to actually break it to the point it wasn’t recoverable. I lost 200 transactions in total. Also some view update issues. Really doesn’t breed confidence in the product. Also doesn’t allow offsetting tax year dates.

Any other options out there?

Requirements are:

1. Suitable for personal and small business accounts.
2. Actual native interface on OSX.
3. No subscription fee. I want a one time purchase or free.
4. Proper double-entry system.
5. Needs to support multi currency.
6. Needs to support tax year based cycle.

About 15 years ago I was using something I wrote in Tcl/tk + SQLite to do this which I didn’t want to maintain any more. I have considered resurrecting it.

Been there, I basically acquiesced to the limited/hoop-jumping in Numbers.

I found it quicker (in the long run) to dig deeper into Numbers and deep dive into 'formulas' to get what I needed. (There are a lot of Excel-type methods/formulas that take some rethinking to work in Numbers.) While its a bit convoluted to build up all of your formulas and Sheets, in the end it was probably about the same amount/less than searching out and learning several new apps in hopes it might have what I need. YMMV

Hoping to find something better in the future..

SeeFinance is a one-time fee. I can’t be sure that it has all the features you want/need…

I’ve been using Numbers for more than 7 years and it works for me, and with pivot tables, I have all I need.

OP, give Numbers a try, it’s free, and native.

Do you need AP/AR? I run a small business and need that. If so, the options are reduced significantly.

Banktivity. The subscription is optional after the first year
supports multi currencies
