Decent Music program other than iTunes

Is there another music program out there that people use other than iTunes, its unsuitable for me and i much prefer something like Winamp.

I thought winamp had a mac version once? I checked their site and i came up empty.
 
Sorry, I don't know of another good program, but I wonder what your problem is with iTunes? I find it the most complete app for MP3 playback and organization out there.

Try either Audion or Whamb. I like iTunes, so I can't tell you which of those is better, but I will tell you that if you have Jaguar, Whamb allows playlist and music sharing via Rendevous, which is cool.

I just got my iBook yesterday and while its great i don't find iTunes all that great. Maybe its me and i cannot see the option but it looks to me that i cannot point to a location and choose my music instead i go to the directory and select it.

Plus with the ID3 tags thingy i cannot for the life of me get it to read my files properly instead it comes up with "noartist" instead and i have tried all the options. What i find is that later the names magically appear correct and i don't know why.

But like i said i could be mssing something and not using it properly, there are a few ways of doing things with this new laptop that i find "different" at the moment.
 
yeah i have the noartist problem too...but i had that in all the other mp3 programs i've tried, the cool thing about itunes is it is VERY easy to change the id3 tags around. by selcting the songs and pressing apple+i you can change many songs at once
 
Bah this damn mac! :)

I keep forgetting where the menu's are when using an application, i keep forgetting they are all at the top, i'm to used to windows and linux!

Anyway i have imported the music thanks and i'll try what you said with regard to ID3 tags.
 
Tapping apple + i just gives me the info, besides iTunes seems to have resorted everything to do with the songs, artists names are in the albums section and vice a versa.

I have like 1500 songs i have to sort through, not happy. How come the OS can read songs but iTunes cannot?
 
Hmm...I've never had a problem with messed-up tags; to view the tags, after you click Apple (Command) - I you have to click the "Tags" tab in the window that appears. Also, you asked about winamp, get it here: MacAmp Lite X . No longer under development, but the files still exist. Also, a company called Panic makes an MP3 player called Audion that some people prefer to iTunes.
 
iTunes is actually a very powerful app. i really like it because of the ease it gives me when i want to change the ID3 tags on the mp3s. i'm kind of anal about having everything tagged perfectly.

and take your time learning your iBook. many switchers seem to have the problem assuming that since they are good with windows and linux that they will have no problem at all using mac os x because it's said to be so simple.

I use MegaSeg to Play and Manage MP3's. While the feature set is slightly different from iTunes, it is the best player I have ever used (Better than iTunes). It won't burn discs, but I use it for the mobile DJ business I own so i really don't need to burn discs from my music collection. The biggest drawback is the price, but if you are looking for a professional player, MegaSeg is far superior to all others I have used on any platform. The price is $169.
 
iTunes question....

I know you can get iTunes to only play a certain section of an MP3 (skipping the first 10 secs and ending the song with a minute to go, for example), is there a way to get iTunes to burn this way? Do I have to buy Toast? I don't wanna buy Toast.

Also, does anyone here make their CD labels on the computer? What application does one use to do this?

What file sharing software do y'all use? Limewire sucks.

Lastly, is there any way to move tracks from an iPod onto a harddrive? I have legitimately burned some CDs onto my iPod which I have lost, there must be some way to do this.

I have answers to the last two questions for you:

For file sharing software, I highly recommend Acquisition. Based on the same gnutella servers that Limewire is, but it's oh-so-much better.

You cannot move files from an iPod to your computer with iTunes, however, you can with Audion.

As far as I know, you can't do the crossfade or ending a song early thing on a CD without the help of Toast with Jam (if you do have the money, however, it's really good software). I work with audio mixing for CDs in my spare time, and that's the best software i've used for personal home stuff.

Right i have found the solution to my troubles, i have downloaded a program called "MP3 Rage" from version tracker and i've had to hand edit my 1500 songs, its taken me close to 3 hours but i am satisfied with what i have done. So i thank all who have helped me with their suggestions and thankyou to the people who have emailed me or contacted me via ICQ, i wasn't expecting this kind of response from yourselves over such a program. The Mac community is something to be believed and i hope i can help others just as well when they are in my situation.

I'll be sticking with iTunes as i have seen where i was going wrong and 25% of it was my own fault.

Best thought i would mention this incase anybody was having trouble with ID3 tags and what not, its MP3 Rage from version tracker. Its shareware but it lasts 15 days and i won't need it for that long, i wish i could buy it but i would have no need for it. All i can do is tell others that it is worth the price asked for.
