So rumor is the new iPad Pro will use a MiniLED Display made up of hundreds of tiny Zones just a guess in an 11” Display 256 zones, which will allow for deep richer colors and deep blacks. Much like the $5,000 Pro Display XDR uses. Which will allow Pros and users Color Calibrate and use Color Profiles to Edit Photographs and Color grade video more accurately and professionally on an iPad Pro without having to spend $2,000 to $5,000+ on Professional Desktop Displays or the super expensive Apple Pro XDR Display which only works when you own a $8000+ Mac Pro. This makes a lot of sense in so many ways I sincerely hope this is true an Applaud Apple for this.

Let’s be honest 120Hz Pro Display was a cool idea, but I have no idea when it running, or what refresh rate it’s working at ever.
The best I ever see are 1080p60 YouTube videos an HD Netflix Content. I have never ever been given A reason why I need 120Hz Promotion display ever.
My guess is that the rumors are True in order to Rebrand the iPad Pro and Provide another Top Level Pro Feature even the MacBook Pro laptop lacks.

Further evidence shows that Apple Pencil 2 support has been offered at lower tier iPads which is what I think will happen.
120Hz Pro Motion will take a step down to lower grade iPads just like Apple Pencil support did.

Splitting the line. If you need An “Art” drawing tablet it’s gonna be $500-$600 ish with Apple Pencil 2 and 120Hz ProMotion support for Artists and just a general good iPad.

While the new iPad Pro XDR (expect a new name) will feature new HDR10 and 256 dimming zones and Richer colors and deeper HDR level blacks. Allow 4K HDR video at 60hz and new Color Accurate Profiles and Modes to match the 34” Pro Display XDR but at a much cheaper $998 Price

Really curious what everyone else thinks.

I can perceive the difference in smoothness of animation and page scrolling with ProMotion display on my iPad Pro vs standard iPad displays. Given that I do not put as much stock in HDR and image quality for video playback on my iPad Pro as I do UI smoothness because the quality of the screen is already excellent my vote is for retention of ProMotion.

But as has been mentioned in another thread why must the two be mutually exclusive?

Personally, I’d rather have 4K and HDR than Pro-Motion in an iPad Pro... 4K and HDR support would make the iPad Pro the ultimate media powerhouse, not that it’s not great already.

But both 120Hz refresh rate AND 4K HDR support would obviously be ideal.

To the OP: Just to clarify, are you referring to an iPad Pro with an actual 4K display built in? Or just the same res as the current Pros but support for sending out 4K video via the USB C port?

To answer the last part yes. A 4K IPad Pro Display would be ideal and very sharp. But if not full 4K HDR output ok as well and definitely a Wider Color Gamut Display.

After much thought and how Apple could market the iPad Pros as Mini Pro Display XDRs. I can see the ads now where a techy guy is lusting after a Pro XDR Display and magically it shrinks down and becomes a tablet in his hands.

Lol!! I can see that too... but in all seriousness, a 4K HDR Mini LED display on an iPad Pro with all the benefits of those three technologies would be really great, to put it mildly. Throw in an A14X processor with whatever upgraded performance comes along with it and we could be looking at quite the beast!!!

I don’t do work on my iPads, just read, browse, email and Netflix/Prime Video etc... but I could see this hypothetical iPad Pro being great for media consumption IF Netflix and Prime Video made their apps support 4K HDR on iPads. Then I would really have no choice but to buy the thing!! Lol...

But I could see how those features would be great for productivity when being utilized by professionals who do actual work on their iPad Pros... I know you can already edit photos and videos on iPad Pro so I can imagine one with 4K and HDR would be great for that sort of thing where accuracy is paramount. And the way they’re talking up Mini LED that’s the icing on the cake! I have a Galaxy Tab S4 with a Super AMOLED screen and I have to admit that that screen technology is my favorite for streaming videos off Netflix and Amazon as well as YouTube. If Mini LED replicates that experience successfully but without the drawbacks of possible burn in, decreased longevity and production issues that OLED is known for then I say bring it on!!! I’ll happily pay a premium for that!!

So you are cool with giving up ProMotion 120hz for all of the above ?
side note I as well own a Tab S4 amazing Display and a Note 10+ and buying a 55” OLED 4K TV OLED is by far hands down amazing. But I digress none of those have 120hz, and yet offer superior OLED colors and black levels. I know I’m cool with giving up 120hz.

I'd be happy if the Prime Video app supported 1080p - it only does 720p (but you can get 1080p at the web site in Safari).

Well to be clear I’m sure Apple Own TV services will be the first to offer H.265 and AV1 Codecs to stream 4K HDR Content even if Prime and Netflix are behind and offering Dolby Vision.

The point is what is superior To Us. ? 120Hz Promotion or 4K,MiniLED, HDR and deep rich OLED levels of Black levels and Pro XDR Color Accurate functionally and Color profiles.

To me the answer is clear, and has me considering breaking my long standing tradition of skipping 1 IPad Pro generation.

As others have said, it's not clear why there would have to be a choice but if there were, I'd go with the higher resolution, etc.

ProMotion every time, plus iPad has HDR an all that jazz and is 3k, so it’s no slouch in picture quality. Also when I’m watching 4K iTunes movies, the picture looks the same except no 120hz soap opera affect (that I prefer.)
I actually would like the 120hz to be customizable.
HDR & XDR display looks amazing I’m sure, but iPads are often the best displays for tablets and computers... that’s good enough for me.
✌️

No need for 4k in those screen sizes (unless Apple switches to pentile OLED like Samsung uses, in which case they'll need the bump in technical resolution to make up for the lack of "dots"/subpixels). I don't think 120hz makes a huge difference most of the time but the variable refresh rate of ProMotion is great. I'd love to see better HDR whether that means mini/micro LEDs or OLED.
