Decided to take the plunge now..

& purchase my first Apple computer. Im a long time windows user & decided to purchase an IMAC 24' for my business endeavors & for my daughter explore her multimedia talents..

I purused the board for a month, reading the pros & cons of purchasing now verses waiting until the update which makes since... I decided that although an update will on the horizon & the current model will move to the backround, If i maxed out this model it will be built to last for a while(in computer yrs)

So i opted for the 7600GT vid card, 500g hard drive, 3g ram, wireless keyboard and mouse & 3yr applecare.

With the company I work for, I got the corporate partnership discount which saved me atleast 300 dollars. That made the upgrades worthwhile..

Im sure Ill be here asking lots of questions as I migrate from windows to apple world..

Very nice machine. On a 2GB, 256MB, 250GB 2-footer here ordered on the day announced and I couldn't be happier.

I did it! I am very pleased with myself. I deserved it. 2 feet of real estate! It' s awesome.

I was wasting so much time on forums like this one trying to figure out when the upgrades would be and when the newest os and all that stuff... Well, what the hell.

I bought a 24, base model, added 2 g of ram, and took it home, plugged it in, effortlessly hooked up my PDA and the ADSL, put the Ibook in target mode and moved some files over. Its all set up. Only one hiccup. It wouldn't play DVD's at first. I called the mac store and they told me to take it back and get a new one. I downloaded some stuff while I went to work, came home, installed a couple of things and restarted. Everything seems to be fine now. It's really awesome. I haven't tried burning anything yet but I'll find out tomorrow. I'm not crazy about this keyboard and mouse thing because I've been using an ibook for 6 years but I daresay I'll get used to it.

I was going to buy a really maxed out machine in every way, but took a good honest look at myself and my needs instead and I'm really more than happy. I have a 350g 7200 rpm external firewire drive anyway. I have more money to spend on a firewire sound card and audio gear now too. It's more than good enough. I can't believe how bright it is!

I'm actually looking forward to owning a fast computer that will do things that I want. I see some serious computing in the future.

I flip flopped for a month but finally just thought that if they are going to update it next tuesday or the tuesday after that or next month, I might as well max it out so that its still kept up with the update & above, plus with resale value in the future.. Plus its a nice business write off..

I honestly wouldn't worry about making sure it will run the new OS X. I see all the time old OLD macs running tiger. Mostly I've seen it on the clamshell iBook and the G3 iBook as the oldest. Congratulations though. I love my 24. You will too. I have the 24 in my sig and I run Final Cut Studio all the time. You'll be fine.

Welcome , and enjoy, and please do let us know if you find anything that you dislike about your Mac experience, and what you like of course. It will take some getting used to at first, so don't judge it too harsh right away, but I am curious if it 'just works' for you.
