Deciding to switch to Imac

Hello Everyone,
I am thinking of switching to Apple Imac. I want to get the 24 inch model 2.16 GHz, 2 GHz Ram, 256 MB video, 750 GB Hard Drive. I heard Apples do not get viruses and spyware? Is this actually true?
I do alot of video work on my pc presently but tired of it locking up on me all the time. I have a 3.73 GHz Extreme Edition Dual Processor, with 3.25 GB Ram using a video card of 512 MB by ATI. But it still locks up and I am tired of the spyware and ad ware and viruses. So I am thinking of switching to Apple Imac.

What do you think? I will be using it for all my internet surfing, e-mail and a lot for my video editing stuff that I do as a hobby.

Is there a book or some site to help me transgress from PC to Imac?

As for a book, get OS X: The Missing Manual by David Pogue.

As for the choice of Mac, that is exactly what I have. Great machine.

Thats a pretty beefy machine you are replacing. I hope you aren't disappointed by switching to a more consumer level product, but the 24" is better then the others. You must take into consideration that the iMac is running on a mobile chipset/chips for all those perdy looks.

However the virus/spyware thing is real. I haven't used an anti-virus program since OS 9.

I really want to purchase the new iMac, but I am contemplating waiting for the release of the new version (crosses fingers for black iMac).

I currently have a MBP and love it, and am now looking to replace my PC desktop with the iMac.

I think the Mac Pro is a better replacement for your PC. You could reuse your screen as well. The 24" iMac is really nice but it only has 1 dual core processor running at 2.16 (or 2.33) GHz and the memory maxs out at 3 Gig. The Mac Pro has 2 dual core (or quad core!) processors running at 2.66 GHz minimum and can take up to 16 Gig of RAM. It would definitely be an upgrade to ypur current PC.

My present machine is top end as far as PC is concerned. I may check into that Imac Pro since it can go faster and has quad core, and can be taken to 16 Gb ram. That is cool. I really love the looks of the 24 inch LCD though. Too bad Apple does not make a separate LCD monitor of 24 inches. I assume that you can use any 24 inch LCD with the Imac Pro is this true?

The Mac Pro, not iMac Pro, can use pretty much any display. Apple does in fact make their own Cinema Display, which come in 20, 23, and 30 inch sizes, although they can be expensive.
