Decipher my error log (again.....)

Just got the Black Screen saying I need to restart computer, this mac I'm pretty sure is on it's last leg but don't have the money to purchase another one. I can't read error logs to save my life, could someone tell me what went wrong please?

In Bold, TextEdit was the App causing it and it seems like security/Sandbox was involved.

This has nothing to do with Hardware, just a glitch if you ask me, or a bug in the OS.
 
Going back to the times when I used to have (some) knowledge of assembly programming language - which is lower level than C language - seems to me that upon looking at this part of your above log

what is happening is buffer overflow.

In bold above, kalloc is a wrapper that uses kmem_alloc() for large portions of memory and zalloc() for small blocks of memory. This all has to do with the OS-X sending instructions to the processor on how to allocate RAM for certain tasks, be it an application loading call or any function within applications that can be triggered by user or other applications.

What is causing buffer overloads is the question. Could be any USB device, even iTouch/iPhone etc... connected to the Mac Pro. It's all software in my opinion.

All of the backtraces given for CPU 2 on your log above are just a bunch of info to help debug the issue.

I would start by disconnecting one USB device at a time when the computer is off, and then using the computer normally, trying to repeat the error. This is because the last loaded kext is USB related, according to your log.

The last kext was loaded 52 minutes before the kernel panic, they are most of the time irrelevant to the cause.
The process causing the Panic is clearly mentioned in the report and is TextEdit, eventhough it is rare for Apps to cause panics they still can cause one.
If He does not get one in the next few months relating to the same App I would not worry at all.
 
I was getting kernel panics a lot last summer. 4 or 5 a week. Every time it showed a different app as the cause. Although many times it was also the same one. TextEdit.app was also often named as one.

These report logs show you WHAT happened and not WHY it happened. To know why, you have to guess. Sometimes it's a software bug, sometimes, it's hardware related, and so on.

In my case it was eventually identified as being caused by failing memory on my graphics card!

Imagine that, failing GPU ram causing TextEdit or whatever to appear in the kernel panic report logs... ;)

I wouldn't put too much into what's written in these. It may be a good place to start if the panic is repeatable but otherwise they're virtually useless other than as a generic red flag letting you know that something (could be anything) is wrong.
 
If MacProFreak's memory works well (about "zalloc: \"kalloc.8192") thing, below part could point on real reason of KP:

i.e. razer driver that crashed the system (while using Text edit).
 
Yep, I've seen this before, it's the Razer drivers.

They're not that great.

I can't believe people still make software that will cause stack overflow. Or maybe the driver is old, never been revised? Intel processor's set of instructions have grown over the years, that's true, but they still adhere to the same 8086 principles when it comes to stacks. Figures.

Thank you. I love my razer keyboard and mouse but don't use my mouse cause the end is fraying and honestly I just leave it plugged in with a wireless mouse connected, I know pretty dumb :p
