Decision: Pixel 2xl or iPhone 8Plus...?

I recently changed from the 6S to the Pixel 2XL. I have 9 more days to decide to keep the phone or exchange for the 8Plus...frankly I have no idea what to do.

I'm not locked into the Apple ecosystem & changing over to the Pixel was rather easy.

If given the choice, what would you do...?

You probably are not going to like my answer. But, I think a lot of people who frequent this forum are like me and use iOS and Android devices simultaneously. I personally can’t see how I could choose one over the other.

It sounds like you have no preference between Android and iOS. Neither of the two devices you mentioned are state of the art at this point. I would recommend going with the cheaper of the two devices and pocket the difference for something else.

The Pixel 2XL’s camera gets great reviews. So if that is important to you, then you might want to stick with the Pixel.

iPhone 8+

Especially now when Mojave came out.

Phone is my secondary device, and always will be.

iPhone 8 Plus 64GB: $700. Will be supported at least for 5 years from now.
Pixel 2XL 64GB: $850. SD835, already has performance issues on Pie, will only be supported for 2 more years.

Imo it's clear which one is a better value. I vote for the iPhone 8 Plus.

Is this a serious question ? Pixel 2 XL all the way, every day ALWAYS over the 8 Plus.

I have owned my Pixel 2 XL since December best smartphone I ever have. Smooth as butter, #1 camera, great battery life, loud front facing dual speakers, zero screen issues, and always the first to get updates.

I have had like 20+ smartphones over the past ten years, and the Pixel 2 XL is hands down the best most favorite of them all to date.

Stock Android Pie vs iOS ? LOL really ? iOS is hot garbage and just sucks IN MY OPINION. Whereas Android 9 is beautiful, and just so smooth and fluid and fun to use. Plus the iPhone 8 Plus is a very dated looking today after the release of the iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max.

The camera on the Pixel 2 XL even beats out the brand new iPhone XS.

I cannot even comprehend one reason why anyone would want an iPhone 8 Plus ? Unless it was given to you free.

I just bought an 8 plus for my mom to replace her 6 plus and set it up for her and am unimpressed. Yes, it's faster ( the 6 plus literally crawled) but the screen isn't as vibrant and otherwise it's the same old. After using Android for a year on my Note 8, iOS just seems annoying to use. No back button, no customization, etc. Same situation I find with iOS on my second gen ipad pro but at least it offers pencil and split screen support plus a brilliant screen. I miss Apple store support for my phone and that's about it. Imessage would be nice to have option of using but it hasn't been a deal breaker.

I use both, iOS and Android..but if I had to keep just one.. iPhone 8+...just for the longevity, if nothing else.. oh and the red one!

How long do you anticipate keeping the device?

Here’s what Google says about the Pixel 2:

Pixel 2 (2017) phones get Android version updates for at least 3 years from when the device first became available on the Google Store. After 3 years, we can't guarantee more updates.

Apple doesn’t specify but the 5s is still getting updates and it was released in 2013. But my guess is iOS 12 will be the last.

I would only recommend an iPhone over a Pixel if you need iMessage/FaceTime, if you have an Apple Watch, plan to have the device longer than 2-3 years, and/or if you generally require support with your devices since Apple has physical stores you can go to.

If your buying last years phones, the iPhone is probably the way to go since it ages better because of software updates or support. The Pixel 2 probably has 1-2 more years of support at this point, means android q and r, but that’s it.

Because I finally got a good one after sending in for a replacement and sending in the replacement for a replacement. I've had issues ranging from BT crashing to a loose USB C to it not being able to activate. And that's ignoring the fact that the screen is pretty mediocre at best.

That's not even getting into the fact that somehow Google has made stock Android less smooth than OxygenOS, a skinned version of it.

Unless your getting a really good deal, it would probably be better to wait until the pixel 3 comes out, only a few weeks away and even if you don’t like the new model with notch, there will probably be even more deals on the pixel 2.

So after some issues with the screen freezing on my Pixel 2XL as well as 3 dropped calls in a week since getting the phone I switched it this morning for..........iPhone 8. The Android system just is not there for what I need. I can say I gave it a shot but I prefer the reliability and safety of the iPhone.

I wouldn't blame all of Android for the Pixel behaving poorly. Google just isn't good at phone hardware.

I had an iPhone 8 as my work phone for 9 months alongside my Axon 7 android phone. Wife just got an OG Pixel today as an upgrade to a malfunctioning Nexus 5X.

Even though the iphone was not a bad phone, the only nice things I have to say about it are that the camera was decent and the battery life was good. Everything else seemed to be a bit of more of a chore. Custom ringtones, putting music on the device, using a @#$@# adapter for headphones, and a few other things. Pixel 2 will still have the headphone adapter issue, but a smoother operation flow, IMO.

In this case it would actually be LG since they manufacture the Pixel 2 XL. My LG V30 (very similar to the 2 XL to the point where they even use the exact same OLED panel) was good until recently when it started glitching up in weird ways. I actually went back almost entirely to my iPhone 6S since not even a factory reset cured my V30's ills.

Agree! I’ve had both. The Pixels, just seemed cheap and way over priced compared to the OnePlus 6.
