My wife wants to be buy me an iPhone for xmas...I have a company phone on AT&T and have a few questions....

I know there isn't a software unlock for the 3G iphones, but there are the sim unlocks. Do they work as well as the software unlock on the 2G phones? By using my current 3G sim card in a sim unlocked iphone, can I still access an exchange server (I have a data plan)? Can I use my 3G sim card in an unlocked 2G iphone?

Thanks

The two are not equal. If given the choice between the two, definitely go for the 3G.

However, sim unlocks are known to be instable, and can have compatibility broken by software updates.

If you absolutely have to have an unlocked phone, I think Edge is the solution that you are looking for.

Yeah, the 3G sim card can work in an unlocked Edge phone, but to serve what purpose?

The sim card I have is a 3G card for my company supplied cell phone (BlackJack ii). That's why I asked that question.

I know I won't get 3G service on the 2G iphone, just wanted to make sure the phone would still operate with that card.

Gotcha. I misunderstood.

I thought you were asking if a 3G sim card from an iPhone 3G would work in a first gen Edge iPhone. :)

Yes, you can do that too. :D
