Well,

I looked at the new MacBook Pro's and not impressed for what I am looking to do. I am currently using a 2.2 MHZ Macbook pro with a Samsung 25" monitor running them as dual screens. I was looking at possible upgrading and going with the Apple display and new MacBook but I don't need too much portability I am at my CPU 80% of the time. If I do work offline I normally just grab the iPad.

I want dual Apple displays and having a 15" or 17" Macbook just is not going to get it done for me. To go with 2 apple displays I need a MAC Pro.

My dilemma now is, should I wait for the MAC Pro refresh. I was going to go with the 3.33 6 core and upgrade SSD Ram etc... at Macsales.com

GRRR, Apple makes it tough. Had some great suggestions on a refurb too from Hellhammer. I work with photoshop, iMovie, Garageband, and a ton of content production. For me it is about screen real estate no so much speed. BUT if I can have it - I might as well use it.... That is why the 3.33 is probably the best for me. I have always heard get as much processor as you can.

Just venting, I am not in NEED right now, but I really want to bump up to twin displays.....

JB

Don't bother waiting for a refresh, it won't happen for a year at this point. There's nothing to upgrade.

There is 133MHz boost on most Xeons for stock clock speeds, that's it. But I am unsure they will update the line as well. Who knows though?

Thanks Guys

I think I am going to grab the six core 3.33

I am going to get and SSD and start upgrading Ram.

Buy a few displays - my only issue for you guys is: Is it a mistake to go with a new 3.33 or core with two 2.4 processors for possible upgrade in the future??? They are both about the same price at the end of the day.

Which video card (S) to run dual displays????

Thanks in advance :)

I think you are dead on with the 6-core 3.33. I would start with the stock video card and see if you have additional need from there. It will certainly run two displays.

You're really not impressed by the new MBP chips?
They are keeping pace with 3.2GHz Xeons in synthetics. I am flabbergasted Apple went with the Quads. Killer upgrade and I'm not in the market for one yet. 14900 in 32-bit Cinebench r10. Good God! 3727 was the previous top model score with the 640M 2.8GHz i7.

It's not they I am not that impressed

It is not hat I am not impressed it is I really want to go dual apple displays and for about $1000 more I can go with the MacPro :)

I am on my iPad so my typing is off :)

I am ordering the 3.33 and 2 displays from BPPhoto

Then ordering 16gb ram
120gb ssd for boot and apps
1tb caviar black HD

All from Macsales - my only question is with the 5770 do I need an extra cable for the second Apple display?

Did I miss anything?

I just think that workstation is better then a loaded 17" and an apple display :)

I also have future upgrade ability with the 3.33

Thank u - if anyone can help on what I need to order on the 5770 dual displays thank u :)

Can you throw a link to where you are spotting the new benchmarks and comparisons? Thanks!

The Apple displays have mini display port cables and the 5770 has 2 mini display and 1 Dual link DVI so you should be just fine.

Hello
I am using the hexcore MacPro with two ACDs and hope this experience may help you:-

Apologies if you have already realised the following, BUT, the inbuilt cable from the new ACD is not particularly long. It is long enough to reach the back of the MacPro when using one display (with the MacPro close alongside), but if you want to have your displays side by side, then unless you can arrange for the back of the Mac Pro to somehow be behind the centre line of the 2 displays, you will almost certainly need at least one extension cable.

I wanted to put the MacPro at one end of my desk, with the two ACDs side by side at the other end (with about a 2ft gap) and I have had to use 2 extension leads - 1 for each display. (Without the gap I still needed an extension for the furthest ACD.)

I hope this may save you a delay in getting up and running.

Thank you!!!

I am going to pick up the machine, SSD and Displays right now.

I am actually on hold with APPLE to make sure the have the CPU for me to pick up.

Thank you very much on the extensions!! I am going to order my RAM, Extra HD's etc... right now so perfect timing!!

Thank you very much!!

hey JB here is the extension cable for your display that I picked up. You may want to just have 2 of them on hand since youll be going with 2 acds you dont want to need and not have especially for how cheap they are.
