Deep Sleep no more in Leopard?

On my MBP with leopard sometimes if I left my laptop on and ran out of battery it would go into a deep sleep mode so that if I quickly changed to a different battery I could power up and it would resume where I left it. Now when I try to do this my computer just shuts off. Is there anyway I can enable this again? Thanks.
