After having the iPhone 3/3G/4 and 4S I finally made the move to an S3 (How did I live without this level of customization? ). Anyway, this is not yet another iPhone vs. Android discussion (90% of threads morphing into them).

I did notice one thing though. Neither my headphones work with the S3. To be precise, the remote. I bought my headphones for quality and not for the remote integration. The remote just happen to work on the iPhone.

Do ANY headphones with integrated volume control/remote work on Android?

Didn't you get a set with your S3? My note came with a pair of in-ear headphones with a volume/pause remote on the cable. As did the HTC Hero I had before that. So Android definitely supports it.

Bluetooth headphones with pause/skip/volume controls also work.

Oh it certainly did ... Just got a nice pair of Sennheiser I prefer to (continue to) use :p

I just notice that even the 3rd party one from my wife doesn't work on Android ...

The buttons didn't work on my Droid but your Sennheiser should work unless they were specifically "made for iPhone."

I can confirm that not only do the Apple headsets not work properly with the Galaxy S III but the lack of being able to use the volume control is the minor issue...

Having a number of different headsets from Apple over the years. The two latest do not work at all in other ways that are rather important ...

The latest being the Ear Pods, damn they sound great on the GS3, the largest issue is the microphone on the headset control emits a loud buzz and will not transmit your voice during a call.

A similar issue with the mic also exists with the 3GS design headset. Only audio from the mic is completely silent.

Baffled is quite the understatement. Both work well listening to music and watching movies but neither work as a functional headset replacement from the Samsung buds that come with the GS3.

Tested both Apple headsets on my T-Mobile version running the carrier release of JLB 4.1.1, other versions may work differently.

One last thought, I did try a few different headset apps from Google Play. Neither Apple headset could be detected when trying a setup procedure. Once the main or middle button was clicked on both the 3GS and the Ear Pods, the Samsung music player would catch and intercept the middle click every time.

A moot point though as the mic input doesn't seem to work with either. (Tested both with a phone call and the voice memo app)

What Sennheiser headphones do you have?
I use a pair of IE80s with an IE8 replacement cable (for the mic) and it worked just fine with my S3.

680i - oh and the app worked once. Managed to start a track and then it stopped working completely.

Even as an S3 user, paying for functionality that came standard on the iPhone just isn't gonna happen with me. That's one of the thinks that really irks me about the S3, and Android in general.

Surely that has nothing to do with the handset manufacturer but with the headphones one - "hardwiring" support only for certain devices.

I have had numerous different Sennheiser headphones (PX 200 IIi, PX 100 IIi, i300 etc) each in integrated controls and everything has worked on different Android phones except for volume (and that is to do with Apple's implementation, not the phone). That means Mic, start track, stop, forward, back, answer call, hang up.

I use PowerAmp on Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus.

Could be true, I'm not sure though. However, my power beats controls don't function properly with my S3. You could be right, but it seems like there should be no problem with them working regardless of the device.

If you are thinking about a kit that has both the standard 18-55 lens and a second lens I suggest that you try to get the 55-300 instead of the 55-200. That extra 100 mm lets you reach out a bit further.
