Default delete speed - faster?

Is there any way to increase the default delete speed on my MBP?

I'm 5 days into my first Apple product, and I'm finding that deletion of text is slower than Windows on nearly everything, including this very window that I'm typing this into.

I think I've only noticed this so far forums like this, on the URL address bar, and other more common tasks like that.

Any help would be appreciated!

1. Goto System Preferences
2. Keyboard & Mouse
3. Keyboard tab
4. Change the key repeat rate, and delay until repeat.
