DefaultFolderX and Photoshop CC just don't work anymore!

Just recently updated the loved DefaultFolderX to the latest version, 5.7.6. Everything works fine like it used to...

...except of Photoshop CC! Whenever i try to save some open file under a different name or a newly created one for the first time, the "Save"-button in the save-dialogue is just greyed out. If i try to click on it anyway, the moment the mousebutton is pressed, the button turns normal and the DefaulFolder-stuff, toolbar and bezle, disappears. For as long as the mousebutton is pressed. But nothing get's saved alsong with it.

Tried trashing all the prefs of PS as well as DefaultFolder. But no luck so far. I wonder, if it has something to do with DefaultFolder requiering access to screen recording with this version. Behaviour only appears with Photoshop. All other CC-apps work fine. OS is 12.6.4.

Did anybody else experience similar or has a solution?

I LOVE Default Folder (been using it since the pre-OSX days). I also use Adobe CC apps daily. I've not had this issue at all.

The first thing to try is allowing screen recording access for Default Folder (the need for it is a simple GUI thing that most people won't even notice anyway). I doubt this will be the solution, but you never know.

Next, send a support email to Jon (the Developer of Default Folder). He's very responsive and will offer a solution if one is to be had.

Yess! Same here. Just don't want to handle open and save without it!

Yes! Didn't solve it. Launching newer versions of DefaultFolder without this permission is not even possible.

Yes, should try this. But, as people like you working with the same scenario without any issues, i don't even know exactly what the problem is. 😫

I would just copy/paste what you typed in your first post in this thread and include a screenshot or two to illustrate your point. Be sure to list macOS, Default Folder and Photoshop version numbers. Also mention that DF appears to be working fine with all your other apps.

But before you do that, see if this makes any difference (as before, I doubt it will, but it's a simple test)

Sadly my version of PS does not offer the "Legacy Save As"-setting. Is there a way to force this via PSUserConfig-file?

Also did some testing with High Sierra. Over there even the latest version of DefaultFolderX, 5.7.6, works perfectly with the very same version of PS CC. So it's clearly caused by somthing inside the OS, Monterey, or some other extension which i do not have on the HS-machine. But don't reallyknow, what it cold be.

What version of PS are your screenshots taken from?

I use the latest Adobe CC version of Photoshop (which is currently 24.3.0) and macOS Ventura 13.3.1. You appear to be running an older version of Photoshop, so there is no "Legacy Save As" option (because you're already running a legacy version of PS).

Yes, in this regard, you are perfectly right! ...and with an also Legacy OS like HS all seems to work fine so far.

So it's something with Monterey or some stuff, i installed there but not on the HS-machine, which i can not figure what it could be. I tried also giving PS itself different rights, such as Accessibility or Screen Recording and even Full Disk Access. But nothing solved the issue.

Meanwhile i filled the support form and am waiting for the Dev to answer.

I've used every version of Default Folder with every version of Photoshop, running on every version of macOS since the pre-Mac OS X days, on multiple Macs, with no issues at all. So it's definitely something specific to your setup on that one Mac.

I couldn't say what the issue is on your particular computer (obviously). Starting up in Safe Mode, then running no apps other than Default Folder and Photoshop might help. If it works, then you know it's a software conflict with another app and you can then begin narrowing down which one it is (usually some sort of startup item conflict, but could be anything). If it still doesn't work after starting up in Safe Mode, then there's an OS problem – which is more troublesome and would most likely require an OS re-install.

Sadly i was not able to boot to Safe Mode. Holding the shift key while booting, just caused the machine to hang after preboot. So i did just that: Whipe an entire SSD, create some fresh USB-installer-stick, run a clean instll to the SSD which i just wiped. And, after all of that, only launch PS and DefaultFolderX...

...and – to my very disappointment – it still occurs! So i seem to be out of luck without some answer of support or an update, which cures it.
