Fantastic! Thanks for putting this together. I'm farther than I was before (I wasn't getting into the proper recovery mode, apparently), but I'm stuck in recovery mode. iNdependence (which has worked before) simply won't kick the phone out of recovery mode. I've tried several times, leaving it open for a couple minutes. Anyone have any advice?

EDIT: iNdependence says "Connected to iPhone in recovery mode" at the bottom.

This is a common problem. Are you sure that you installed 1.1.1 twice? Two restores seemed to be the magic number for me to get iNdependence to work, but yours may be different. If you can't get it to work, try Option-Click restoring 1.1.1 again and then try iNdependence. Also, make sure you have Beta 2 of iNdependence if you updated to iTunes 7.6.

Ran into a problem trying to connect to the phone via SSH. Had to delete the known hosts. So if anyone runs into that problem, that's how to fix it. Also, it looks like the sleeper.net site is down. Anyone know any other sources with the 1.1.3 tweaks on it?

Oops, thanks for catching that typo. Its sleepers.net/iphonerepo. Updating the guide now.

use Google's new cell-tower locate feature, (ONLY if you are a valid AT&T/O2/etc customer)

Maybe I'm missing something here, but it works fine for me and I'n not on one of the official providers. All I had to do is run LocateMe once (and also after every reboot, but that's not an issue for me)

edit: Ok, now I see it - this tutorial simply doesn't cover unlocking...

Sir,
I have an OOTH UK 1.1.2 iPhone that I have jailbroken already and use it here in Thailand with my Thai AIS sim and a Stealth sim together.
My question is can I upgrade to 1.1.3 using your method? If so should I put the UK pay as you go O2 sim card that I have in the phone while following your instructions or just leave the AIS and Stealth sim in the phone??
Thanks

i get unknown error 1 not 1015 or 1013 and it wont work...

That's the same problem I was having earlier. I wasn't entering the correct restore mode...make sure you read the guide and do *exactly* as it says; your iPhone screen should be black, it should not have the connect to iTunes logo on it.

I'm all done, by the way...this guide worked great!! Thanks.

I have a problem, when I download 1.1.3 Jailbreak for Mac OS X and open Run This, I have a problem with terminal and it wont let Run This work, can anyone help?

and you are restoring in DFU mode right?

bbplayer is correct, cah87. You didn't follow the instructions in the guide correctly, but it is a mistake many people make. In order to downgrade from 1.1.3, you need to be in the correct restore mode. Please see step 4 again - the key phrase here is "your iPhone screen should be BLACK." I'll try and clarify this again for people who get error (1).

Right, I didn't want to cover unlocking here as I've never done it myself (AT&T customer) and couldn't be sure the instructions I was giving actually worked.

As you can see, I don't cover unlocking or StealthSIM here. If you have a method for unlocking that will work under 1.1.3 (I think there are some, if you have a version 3.9 bootloader, by downgrading your baseband...but again I'm not sure so I won't put it in the guide), then you can use that after following this guide. When upgrading to 1.1.3 using the NateTrue jailbreak, however, it shouldn't matter one way or another which SIM card you have in. I cannot guarantee if your phone is going to work after the update because my knowledge about unlocking techniques is basically nil besides the basics of baseband downgrading, but you definitely can update.

What exactly is the problem? Error message, something? Gotta give us more if you need help.

when i try to install AppSnapp my safari shuts down and goes back to the activate iphone screen, is that suposed to happen?

alright thanks for the tips guys im at the activate iPhone screen and it says incorrect sim for some reason the phone was just working. When i try to call out with #307# nothing happens

everything works except edge

And you did the lockdownd step? I assume you're an AT&T or O2 customer.
Can you make calls or access your voicemail? Do you have an AT&T or O2 logo in the upper left corner?

Yes, your iPhone should reboot once AppSnapp is finished installing.

When I doubleclick Run_This it goes into a popup that says

"There is no default application specified to open the document "Run_This"." and the options are Cancel and Choose Application

When I click Choose Application...
and select Terminal it says
"An error occurred while changing the application that opens "Run_This" because not enough information is available.

Do you want to open "Run_This" with "Terminal"?
Options are Cancel Don't Update Update

When I select Update it says

"You cannot change the item "Run_This" to always open in the selected application.

The item is either locked or damaged or in a folder you don't have permission to change. (Error -61)
Options are OK

When I select OK it says
"The operation could not be completed.

An unexpected error occurred (error code -10814)"

Thats all that happens,

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!

When I doubleclick Run_This it goes into a popup that says
<snip snip>

That's odd, but easily fixed. (Unless you've got a PowerPC mac, that is, in which case this jailbreak isn't for you.)

Open up a Terminal window and drag the "Run_This" file into it.
