Hi I just got my Mac Book Pro in yesterday and I was just wondering how I make VLC player my default movie player for .avi files? Thank you.
 
The way I do this is take any .avi file you have and get info on it (Command-I, or Control-Click get info) and near the bottom you'll see the 'Open With:' command. Set that to VLC, and then press the button 'Change All...' . From now on all .avi's will open with VLC.
