Delay before you can talk after answering phone?

My iPhone 6 is my first iPhone and I don't know if this is normal but after receiving an incoming call and swiping to answer if I start talking after swiping the other caller cannot hear me for a second or two, so basically when answering the phone I have to wait a second or two before I can start speaking, very annoying. It's the same for my wife's iPhone 6.
 
Still have this even on latest IOS, is this issue here to stay? It's REALLY creaking annoying.
 
Been happening with some phones as far back as iPhone 4 (and iOS 5 basically). Not likely iOS related, or at least not completely iOS related, as much as it might have something to do with the involved carriers in some way.
