Delay in receiving notifications of emailed invites

My Macbook Air (11" running Catalina 10.15.7) will notify me of invitations that are emailed to me but there is a long delay between when such emails arrive and the calendar-oriented notification displays. To be clear, I am not talking about the notification of receiving new mail. This has led me to have multiple entries in my calendar for the same event/meeting. If there is a way to fix this so that the delay isn't so long, I'd like to know. Thanks in advance.
