When I dictate into my iPad (iPadOS 18) autoCorrect seems to behave increasingly bizarrely. More often than not now, I will dictate something, AutoCorrect will get it wrong and then a few seconds later correct it to what I wanted it to say. I will then carry on dictating, only to find later on, often after it is too late and I have already posted what I had written, that it has autocorrected it again to something even more wrong than its first attempt. I also often find now that I will dictate something, AutoCorrect will get it more or less right, and then suddenly delete half the sentence. If I then tap on the place where the deletion has occurred and start typing, the deleted portion will reappear, except it will be messed up by my attempt to type what has been deleted.

Is there a way to make AutoCorrect behave more sanely?

you use more than one keyboard language? For which languages is dictation enabled?

Besides that, you should report it via the feedback app Apple provides for the beta(s).

I use English, French and Dutch.

And I’d completely forgotten that I had opted to use the beta. I can’t even remember why I did that. There must have been something that wasn’t working for me in version 17, but I can’t remember what it was.

Make sure that the language you dictate in is selected for the keyboard, then try again. AFAIK there is no "polyglott"-option for dictation in iPadOS and as a result dictation can deliver quite some bizarre text when a different language is set for input.
Then again Apple communicates improvements on dictation for iPadOS 18 - but these feature might depend on »Apple Intelligence« and therefore currently not fully (or locally) available.

Forgetting of the beta-version when using it is a good sign, isn’t it? 🤓
