Am I the only one with this experience?

On Friday, I started a group chat at work. In the afternoon it got quiet, with no chats coming in. When I woke up the next morning, there were 17 messages in the group chat from the previous day. This message had grey and green text bubbles, indicating it was an SMS message.

Then after that, I updated to 9.0.2. Last night, (Saturday) at 11:12pm, I sent a text to a friend. I received no reply. When I woke up the next morning, his reply was on my phone, but indicated he sent it at 11:32pm. This message had blue text bubbles, indicating it was sent back and forth as an iMessage.

Is any one else experiencing the delayed arrival of text messages?

EDIT: I'm on AT&T. Have been for years (original unlimited data customer). I'm on an iPhone 6.

Is it a particular carrier?
I randomly get delayed texts from my daughter - she is on T Mobile. I'm on AT&T.

I'm having the same problem on my iPhone 6+ with AT&T. I've missed out tons of messages and receive them the following day. I think I've noticed it is happening with group texts that have Androids in them. I'm also getting the Service Denied text message too. Pretty ****ing annoying.

Im on ATT and have this issue. I find it happening mostly with a mixed use environment (I have my main computer, Apple Watch and iPhone on GM releases with updates and an iPad and my Laptop on the 9.1 beta - if I receive it on a beta device it sometimes never shows up on the other devices or shows up the next day).

I am seeing this issue with a group consisting of 4 iPhone users and 1 Android user. I am with AT&T. I get a message that was a reply to another message that I never received, so I'm left in the dark until I ask what message I missed. I also randomly get the Unknown Service Denied message, which I never received before iOS9. I've tried rebooting, hard resets, etc. At one point I got a large block of texts that were missed, but they were from over 2 weeks ago. It's very frustrating!

same issue here. Haven't really investigated much myself as I found SOOO many others having same issue. Went on a hunt to see that it is at least a "known" issue in AT&T's and/or Apple's eyes. It appears it is: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7233981?start=60&tstart=0

"I went to the apple store today and also called AT&T tech support. Both apple and AT&T told me that they are now aware of the problem. (the apple store tech even showed me the info file on our problem in apple's database). Sadly, they said there was nothing that could be done about it immediately that we haven't already tried. But they did say that now that both companies are aware of it, someone somewhere "should" be trying to fix this, probably in a future update. I know it doesn't help us right now, and our phones will keep doing this in the mean time, but hopefully now there might be light at the end of the tunnel."

in that same threat, user CSmith works for AT&T and posted:

"Just as an update, I actually work for AT&T Advanced Tech Support. We FINALLY have this listed as a known issue. Apparently enough people have been calling about it. Right now when someone calls we are creating additional cases, attached to one main case. Now that it is at least in the systems, this should be resolved soon."

This issue has been going on since the day iOS 9 was released (AT&T customers only apparently). There's another thread with approx. 12,000 views and lots of posts about it. If you are getting random text messages from Unknown that say Service Denied then you are probably missing or receiving delayed group MMS messages. Apple blames AT&T and AT&T blames Apple. Regardless of who is at fault, someone needs to fix the issue.

I spoke to AT&T today they didn't try to pass the blame off to Apple they just said Apple is working on a fix and both companies know about the issue. Until then we hang tight...
