Hey,
Basically I got a common issue.. new girlfriend etc.. want to get rid of the pictures on my phone by killing the camera roll, but how do I prevent the photos app from syncing the old pictures back to my phone?

I can't delete or lose my entire photo library on my mac as it's around 10k pics deep and it's years of memories, so I don't want to lose all of that. Deleting manually all the pics from the gf will take forever as we were married for 5 years..

Any advice besides a new apple id? ( lol )

Looks like it's not an option in iOS 10 anymore from what I have gathered so far.
Connect the phone to the Mac, open image capture and delete seems to be the only way. Then turn off iCloud photo sharing across your devices or all my pictures on my mac will be synced to my phone again.. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I have iCloud Photo Library on and whenever I delete a picture on my phone or my laptop, it gets deleted from both. Not sure if this helps or not.

another option - might be to create a new library on the Macbook (hold option key down when opening photos) then you would have 2 libraries - one for going forward and the old one as a back up and archive. I have many libraries and this works for me to separate "work pictures", "hiking pictures", "family pictures" into separate libraries and files etc. ( great for back up too)

You can still open the other libraries by holding the option key down to select from the available libraries on your MacBook or Drive where you store the Libraries

You can then manage which library is syncing with your iPhone and which is not
