how come phone dimming and low readability under sun were never been a popular issue until now?

Is it because iphone 14 exposes the weakness of previous generation iphone?

Presumably because most people don’t live in, or hang out outside in, climates where it’s an issue? It’s always been a known issue for certain use cases.

I don't remember if it was an issue with 13 at first because it was already almost Autumn then. Was definitely an issue this summer at the amusement. Hope it's not the same with 14 where it's ok now with the less direct sun compared to Summer.

One of the issues I’ve had with iPhones to date is with readability/usability in intense outdoor settings. I’m talking 100% or close to 100% sunlight and 85+ degrees Fahrenheit. Phones will generally work well for 5-10 minutes but quickly dim to the point where it’s difficult to read.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised with my iPhone 14 pro max. Been outside in a bright hot and slightly humid setting, and haven’t noticed any screen dimming (if it’s dimmed at all, it hasn’t affected readability)

No phone will be perfect in direct sunlight and high heat but this feels like a major step up.
Thanks, I hope this keeps up into the summer. I don't remember it being an issue until then with the 13 either. Didn't have issues in the beginning

yep. Would love to see more comments/experiences on this besides myself, but being currently in a hot and sunny climate I’m quite happy

I was outside working the other day at high noon with temps in the mid 80s and it was easily readable until it dimmed after several few minutes in the sun.
