Am on iOS 14.2 and deleted an app using the 'press and hold' technique and selected delete. Gone from my phone, I thought, but its still present somehow. Doesn't show up on the iPhone screen, but shows up in the App Library utilities, and I can open it by searching for the app. Tried to use the 'other' delete option, going to:

Settings -> iPhone Storage -> touch the app

But that does not present me with the option to delete (or offload) just shows me the app, its size, and how much data it is using. What am I doing wrong?

Have you tried deleting it from the App Library (essentially in the same manner that you would delete it from the Home Screen)?

Thanks for the suggestion C DM, no option to delete there either:

Screen captures of the app library options, and the iphone storage options, neither lets me delete it. Didi to the icon press initially, which then gave me the option to delete, even asking if I was sure, but for some reason it is not deleted...

Have you tried restarting the device and then checking those options again to see if anything might be different (and you might be able to actually remove the app)?

You can’t delete an app from library. Add it back to Home Screen and delete from there. Make sure when asked that you don’t touch delete from Home Screen, that you touch delete app.

The delete option seems to be available while in the App Library.

Good suggestion, wanted it to work.... Added it back to the home screen, and get a 'remove app' option (see screen capture). But the remove app option only yields a 'remove from home screen' option... (see screen capture)

Yeah, restarting was my first thought (probably a holdover from the years I spent using Windoze). No joy.

You can delete the app with it in the app library. The procedure is the same as wha you just tried.

Do yo still have a Ring device active? If so, open the app and delete all Ring devices. Then try to delete the app.

No, have removed the device, and the location, and unchecked Ring notifications. Still unable to actually delete the app.... Sigh. Was a time when I thought I was technical....

Are you seeing this with any other apps if you try to delete those?

It sounds like something else might be in play. Is this app a regular app installed form the App Store? Could it be some type of beta version or something like that which might involve a profile to be installed (which might need to be removed from settings first)?

It's a regular app store install.... Can't identify a profile associated with it... Pretty strange. But you were right, other apps seem to have just the 'remove from home screen' also, so maybe it is an iOS setting somewhere....

EDIT: OK, found it... In content and privacy restrictions under screen time, there is a setting for itunes and app store purchases for allow or 'don't allow' deleting apps... Annoying that 'don't allow' was selected, as I had never 'selected' it...

Wow, good find. I knew I had the same issue but didn't know why. Now I know it was when I was "playing" around with Screen Time. Like you, wondering how "don't allow" had been selected. Wondering if developer can auto select it for their app. Guess it's a type of protection for kids.
