How do I get messages that I delete or file on my iPhone to do the same in Mobile Me mail. When I log on I see a huge list of messages that I have already actioned. When I move one all the rest catch up.

Why does this not work automatically?

Same Problem

Hi, I have exactly the same issue, and I am glad to see your post. I posted something on this a while back, but did not articulate the problem as clearly as you did. I have gone back and forth with support on this. They gave me the standard "clear your cache" procedures, but I suspect it is more of an IMAP glitch, since in my case, the emails that are "left over" in the inbox on MM do show up in my synced folders as well on MM, so the syncing is working just fine. I too, have the same experience where, once you fix one, all the rest get fixed as well. I expressed all this to the MM support, so (I hope) they are clearly aware of the situation. Once in a while, if I am logged out of MM, and perform some action on emails either in Mail.app or the iphone, when I log back in, I will occasionally see the inbox as it should be, i.e., empty, so apparently the issue doesn't happen 100% of the time, but it happens more often than it should. If others are experiencing this, please speak up.

This is a well know problem that happens to everybody 100% of the time. The problem is only when deleting messages on the iPhone, not on the desktop mail app (at least not on a Windows Desktop - I have tested with Outlook 2007 and Windows Live Desktop).

I am suprised that Apple Support gave you the answer they did since this is a easily repeatable problem by anybody. It is NOT like the problem most report where MM is not Syncing with the iPhone or the Desktop.

Good to hear

Glad to hear this is, indeed, a well known problem. I will add that, at least in my case, the issue occurs even if I am working with an email in mail.app. (it's not exclusive to working with email on the iphone and then logging in to MM.)
In addition, at least in my case again, there are times where this problem does not occur, (less than 5% of the time.) I too, thought MM support's response was a bit lame (clearing the cache..) but that was indeed their response. Look forward to their fix at some point.

I just wanted to clarify. Do you mean 5% when using Mail.app or the iPhone? If you mean the iPhone then you may want to re-test. It is my understand that it is a 100% failure. You could almost say it was programmed to work that way but that seems kind of crazy. At one point I felt that is was working "sometimes" but I was wrong. Maybe you experience the same as me. When you delete a message on the iPhone the message is place the Trash folder on both the iPhone and MobileMe but on MobileMe it also stays in the InBox. Now, in my case I can go into Outlook and view me.com and notice that the messages have lines thru them (meaning that they were deleted, but not Purged). At that point I can change folders in Outlook and my setup says to actually Purge Deleted Mail when I change folders which means that the messages would then be deleted from MobileMe which then made me think that it work but in reality Outlook actually Purged the messages from MobileMe. Also, I believe on the Mac the Purge is called Syncronize (or something like that).

will try..

Let me test it out some more, given what you said. This has been one of those things that I work on when I have some time, but more often I just "put up with" until I get some free time. I'll post back with my comments. My recollection, as I sit here, is that the problem occurs with mail.app (on the Mac) most of the time, as i do use that heavily, but we'll see. Thanks for the replies. Hopefully anyone else reading this can chime in with any experiences so this glitch gets fully flushed out.

Thank you

I must say, you are absolutely right. I did a number of tests on this issue, and if I DO NOT USE my iphone to perform any actions on incoming email, and only use mail.app, the messages sync and are removed from the MM web inbox. If I use the iphone to read an incoming email, and file it in a folder from the iphone, then go back on to the MM webmail, that's when the emails won't delete from the inbox. How strange. Apparently, I have been using the iphone for my email more than I think, which is why this problem has been so common for me, and everyone else doing it this way. Thank you for sharing your experience here...this has been helpful is flushing out what the issue is.

Anyone find a fix for this yet?

No. Still not fixed by Apple. Tested on 2.01 as well.

Just wanted to add myself to the list.

The mac mail client seems to be immune to this, at least on my system. When I delete messages from the inbox on the iPhone, sometimes they reappear in the inbox after the next time it talks to the IMAP server. Sometimes it works as expected, though.

As a sidenote, push mail to my phone does not work all the time. Maybe 50%?

Still not fixed in 2.02. How hard can this be to fix?

I wonder if this is fixed in 2.1?

I was going to test this but MobileMe Web Mail is down for me. Maybe someone else can test.

No. Just was able to test it when my MobileMe Web started working again.

I was really expecting this to be fixed with the 2.1 release. Unbelievable that they have not fixed this with a .1 release. This has not been a major problem for me since I mainly use Outlook but this should be fixed. Can not be that hard to fix.
