Hello,

I deleted an old 56gb iPhoto library on El Capitan (by dragging and dropping into trash and emptying trash) but it only provided 15gb of free space. I have tried restarting the computer but it didn’t change the free space.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas what is going on?

Many Thanks!

Download DiskWave from here:
It's small in size and free.

Open DiskWave and go to the preferences.
Put a checkmark in "show invisible files".
Close preferences.

The DiskWave window shows you all your volumes and drives in plain English (no ridiculous graphical formats).
Click on any item "on the left".
Now, you'll see what's ON the volume, listed in order of "largest to smallest".
You can easily locate what's eating up your space.

Thanks for the suggestion. The app looks useful.

I downloaded the app and checked show invisible files but pictures folder shows nothing and trash shows nothing, so I’m not sure what happened to the 41gb of extra space I should have after deleting the iPhoto library.
