Over the years, I have deleted many songs from my music library, but iTunes still has them listed in the Music list on the left side of the app window, with a black cirle indicating the song is not available. I can delete these one by one, or select a group and hit delete, but this is really time consuming. Is there a easier way to get iTunes to delete these songs from its database?

The AppleScript from this website should fix your problem. Just be sure to follow the directions. This site is awesome for iTunes scripts.
