Deleting Cache

I have the MacBookPro from 2016. I noticed that my cache for Google Chrome is holding over 17gb of data. I have downloaded OnyX to help remove them carefully. But before doing so, I just wanted to ask how safe it is to delete that much data at once.

Are these 17gb of data necessary to continue surfing on Chrome? How does one even accumulate that much in data?

Instead of using a 3rd party tool (which can be dangerous), try clearing cache from within Google Chrome itself. That's definitely safe and the right way to do it. Go to the Chrome menu and select Clear Browsing Data.

Onyx is "ok" but I much prefer the answer SmallDane provided and thus second.

You could also locate the files and delete them with Finder... but you need to know where chrome saves(most likely somewhere in ~\Application Support or ~\Caches)..
