Hi,

Current acute problem: iCloud mailbox not receiving, showing "Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender"

Cause
**:** downgraded iCloud Storage and deleted 98gb still showing 100gb only on the 5gb plan

r/applehelp - Deleting iCloud stored Photos - tried everything now icloud mail not receiving email and showing as Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender

Note 1: All photos were backed up (see screen shot) I downloaded via iCloud Windows 10 software program and Deleted them from that app.

Note 2: I unchecked the Photos from the iCloud options

r/applehelp - Deleting iCloud stored Photos - tried everything now icloud mail not receiving email and showing as Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender

Note 3: Then I downgraded icloud storage from 100gb to the free option 5gb.,

Note 4: I also deactivated (decommissioned) all of my historic iphone devices that the photos were originally backed up from.

No problem for a month then when the payment for the 100gb icloud is normally due , a banner over my email alerted me to photos /videos not being backed up BUT the email is also not receiving email and showing as "Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender" when i test from another email.

Note 5: This exact problem happened 6 weeks ago and i decided to pay to an extra month storage and I also at the same time deleted EVERY iphone (6 devices across 10 years) from my device register in icloud/itunes/apple settings

When i check icloud, none of the photos are deleted from icloud storage even though i followed the exact steps of apple instructions of how to do this.

Solution Required: I need icloud to acknowledge the deletion of photos/videos so my icloud mail can function within the 5gb free icloud storage.

Temporary Solution: I just paid another month's storage and my mail box immediately unlocked. Its not that much per month but seems incorrect that I have done all these steps and still it shows all photos backed up

Appreciate if someone can trouble shoot how this!

Do the photos you're trying to delete show in the Photos Recently Deleted album? Deleted photos will stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days unless you delete them prior to 30 days from that album.

Would you also post the link to the Apple Support article for the steps you mentioned that you used?

I have not got an active apple device, my last iphone was lost and i'm switching to my back up android until I can afford a new iPhone again, currently unemployed since covid.

Its months ago, I might look for it again, still an answer should be possible with all of the information I provided. It clearly has the item choices to back up in the iCloud app (photos, email, bookmarks etc) and I have deselected photos/videos, I have also deactivated all 7 iPhones that captured the images originally.

I think I'm right in saying that someone here should know the answer to this, or has rolled back icloud backups before and can say this behavior is abnormal at least......

You can log into icloud.com from any browser on any computer, open Photos and navigate to Recently Deleted. Once there you can select all of the photos and permanently delete them if that's how you want to free up storage. At the very least, it's worth checking to see if your photos are there.
