Tried using Google/MRoogle but didn't find any help on this.

I frequently get spams on my twitter account and its usually in my mentions section. I am able to delete them from my Mac, but i cant delete them from my Twitter iPhone App.

The only way to do it is to first report the mention as spam (which will delete it from the twitter home page on my mac) and then to delete and reinstall the iPhone Twitter App.

I hope there's a better way then this.
How are you guys deleting the mentions?

I've noticed the same, I have old mentions from months ago that I don't really need to see every time I go into the mentions section. Maybe a delete mention function in next update?

I found a way around it. Delete the app and then reinstall it. Mentions gone.
But hopefully there will be a better solution to this app in the near future. Its is my favorite twitter app so far. Very powerful and easy to navigate.

Deleted app and reinstalled. Messages STILL there. Any update from anyone on how to delete these unwanted messages? thank you.

You can't erase them because they're not messages that are saved on your phone. The @ mention area is just a built-in search feature that searches for people who used your name. Those spam-accounts used your name so they're going to come up in a search. Doesn't matter if you erase the app. It's not a message on your phone...it's a search that it'll find them every time it searches.

This is like asking how you can erase things from Google searches. It doesn't work that way.

You can erase Direct Messages by swiping them because they're actually messages to you.

To delete mentions from iphone click the mention highlight the message then click on delete

I don't mean to sound dense here, but just how does one go about this? I can click the mention ok, brings it up on a new screen. There's no way for me to highlight the message (what do you mean? The whole thing? Just my @name?) and no delete option. I'm using iPhone 3GS with twitter app 3.5

whooooooaaa hang on I just figured it out. I never, ever would have got that in a million years. ESOTERIC. iPhones/smartphones are SOO bloody annoying. More words on screen please!!! :)

Many thanks

Mention Deletion

I have found a possible way to delete mentions. This is the process that I use.

Instead of using the Twitter App, I use the Echofon App. I first report it as spam to Twitter from my e-mail account then I block that spammer on the Echofon App. I go to the mention with the spam, and delete the original tweet (I usually copy the tweet to my notes, so I can send it again after this process). I then do this:

1. Hit the "home" icon at the bottom left of the app.

2. Hit the "menu" icon at the top left of the home menu.

3. Hit the "settings" icon at the bottom right of the "menu" menu.

4. Scroll down to the bottom and touch the "Clear Local Cache"

And the mentions with the spam (and unfortunately the tweet) are gone.

Finally I tweet my original tweet again. It is kind of a pain to do but I think it's better and faster than deleting the whole App and re-downloading the App. Then if you want, you can go back to using the Twitter App for iPhone instead of Echofon, if you like that App better.

Hope this helps!

In order to delete multiple old mentions you created in the past, you can use Tweetozaur.
After logging in with your Twitter account, simply go to "Menu" -> "Tweets" -> "Delete Mentions", and select the mentions you would like to delete.

It's free, and got lots of other cool features. Works on mobile as well :)
