Deleting photos from iPhoto

it's strange but I can't seem to delete photo's from iPhoto '08 (7.0.2). Everytime I either drag to the trash or hit the delete button nothing happens OR the photo's go back to the album that I deleted them from.
Any ideas?

Not sure about 08, but don't you have to empty the trash? The one within iPhoto.

M@lew is right for iphoto 06, but does it work the same in 08 ?
Drag images to the trash can then right click over the trash icon in iphoto and empty.
