Hi All,
I have a 1 GB external 2.5 drive connected via Thunderbolt cable that I'm backing up with TM from a 2017 iMac i5 with Mojave. I would like to delete selected sessions to make room and wondering what method is best to achieve this? I am currently selecting and deleting using Finder, which seems to work well although pretty slow emptying the Trash. Any thoughts? Cheers Rob

You are not supposed to manually mess with Time Machine backups. There is a chance that you’ve messed it up but it’s likely impossible to know for sure. If you have a large file backed up and you want to delete it because you know you’ll never want it again, open the Time Machine interface, find the file, right click on it and select “Renove…”

Thanks for the replies. I have been deleting TM backups on my macs over the years as described and haven't had a failed restore so far (touch wood). The posted link describes selecting the particular delete backup under the gear wheel option. I hadn't come across that option before. I know TM will delete the oldest files but I like to keep a couple of backups of each year, hence selecting in between sessions. Thanks again for your help. Cheers Rob
