deleting things off memory sticks, digital cameras, etc

whenever i try to delete stuff off any kind of memory device, it is gone from view but the stick remains full. when i plug it into a windows machine, i find a "trashes" folder with everything that was supposed to be deleted. i called applecare and as polite as the guy was, he basically just said third party blah blah blah call such and such blah blah blah. this is getting to be a huge issue. i can't clear a memory stick OR my digital camera. i'm not always going to be in a place where i can plug my devices into a windows machine so i can delete those pesky TRASH files off.

any suggestions, ideas? anyone else had this problem?

With the stick/device mounted on your desktop, trash the files. Then empty the trash...that'll get rid of them. Simply trashing them without emptying it just moves them to a trash directory on the device...they're still there.

works for the most part...

thank you! this worked in the sense that it gets the stuff off the stick, but it's still putting 3 files on the stick. a trashes file (._.Trashes is the name of the file), a trashes folder (but it is empty..), and a DS_Store file? edited to say: these files are only viewable on a windows machine, just like before. it won't show them on the mac.

don't know if you can help me with the remainder. if not, this is leaps and bounds better than before, so THANK YOU!!

That's okay...those are hidden files that the Mac/Unix structure uses. They take up next to no space, so don't worry about them. The trash ones are obviously related to the trashing process, while the .DS_Store file contains information that allows the system to remember things like window size and screen position from the last time you opened it.
