deleting tmp files

When doing a Restore in iTunes of a IOS device, is there anyway to delete these "extracted" files afterwards (or where they are stored so I can remove them manually) or are these deleted automatically after restore is complete?

There are various tmp locations in OS X
/private/tmp
/tmp
etc....
You really don't want to mess with system files unless you know what you are doing. They are cleaned up each day with the daily cron job.

oh ok..

Sorry. name may have been tad off... but IOS isn't really system files....

Its downloaded from iTunes... and extracts in order to install..

What i wish to do is remove these "extracted" files......

So these are stored in the same place ? even though they are not critical to the system ?

You're right they are not critical to the system. They are temp files and will be deleted by the Daily cron job.
My warning was for those who might go into terminal and misuse rm and delete more than then intended
I'm not sure where iTunes stores the software it extracts , but I suspect it is in a temp directory.

You will find them in the folder shown below and they are the .ipsw files listed by device. You can delete them is you want.

They are temp files and will be deleted by the Daily corn job.
