if they are a little more intricate they will usually have an uninstaller

He's asking about an iPhone not a Mac.

If you want to delete an app directly from the iPhone, you just simply select an app icon and hold for a few seconds, all the apps will start to "wiggle" around and have an X in the top left corner of the icon. Tap on the X and it will ask if you want to delete the app. If you want to permanently remove the app next time you sync up your iPhone/iPod, you can delete the app from iTunes as well and it will delete the app from the phone.
