I am ordering a Macbook Pro 14" and I want it to arrive between January 2-7. Right now it says delivery estimate is at that exact date range BUT I have heard delivery can sometimes come early which I don't want because I want to make sure I put it into service in 2025 for tax purposes. When should I order? For context, I am also returning my original order from November and I have to return it by January 8. I basically can't have a space between without a laptop.

It is BTO with 4TB SSD and Max spec. My first one was the same but it arrived 7 days earlier than the Apple estimate though
Yes, Apple likes to underpromise and overdeliver. Can you do the swap in a store? Order the laptop for in store pickup then just don’t pick it up until 2025?

Edit: you may want to confirm your tax authority uses pickup date and not the date you were charged for it. Especially if you’re doing cash basis accounting.

That's an idea. How long do you think can they hold it in the store, in case it arrives next week.

Assuming you are in the U.S., you might want to review the IRS's definition of placed in service date. A fixed asset is considered placed in service when it is available and ready to perform its intended business purpose. A computer sitting in a box does not meet that definition. As long as you don't set up and configure the computer for use, it is not placed in service. If you are in the US, I think they will hold for a week. I ordered mine for delivery to an Apple Store and at the time of order it gave an estimated delivery date of Friday Nov. 29th. It arrived at the store Thursday Nov 21st and the email said the last day for pick-up was the 29th.
